The people

I have to admit my love for flowers came later than you might expect, as I furthered my education down an art route. I didn’t find what I wanted there and went off travelling and visiting family in Australia which is where I found floristry!

I worked for 6 months at an amazing florist in Sydney and decided to come back to the UK to train with designer florist Jane Packer on her career course. After finishing the course, Jane offered me a job at her concession in Selfridges, Oxford Street and then to help open their Selfridges Birmingham concession. I worked there for a few years and decided to go it alone!

So, from starting in a very cold and dark garage with no running water to a beautiful shop in the Jewellery Quarter, I’m very proud of all that we have achieved. Through difficult economic times, we have continued to provide flowers for a lot of customers that I had from the start and many new too.

Expanding the business into training people in floristry is very rewarding and hearing all the great comments that we get from all our wedding customers is the best feeling.

Whilst flowers have always been important to me, it took me a while to realise they could become part of my daily working life... Not quite knowing what to do with myself after school, I read classical literature at university. Still not knowing what to do after that, I travelled the world and lived in Australia for a couple of years, working, travelling and studying more.

On my return to the UK, I still hadn't quite found my niche... then I came across In Bloom. I did a course with Kate here in the Jewellery Quarter and I think you could say the rest is history...

Working with flowers and alongside our clients everyday is incredibly fulfilling. From meeting a bride at her first consultation to delivering her bouquet on the morning of her wedding. Creating weird and wonderful arrangements for funky events. Even battling the slugs and growing sweet peas in the back garden...It took me a while but I got there in the end!
